England: Luckiest Escape to Draw The First Test of Ashes 2009 Against Australia
England has survived one of the most interesting test match of Ashes history and clinch a draw against Australia in first test match. The two unusual heroes for England are Monty Panesar and James Anderson who played for last wicket and stayed on cris for 39 minutes and ended the test in draw.
They both step by step took England near draw and did not allow any of the Australian bowler to succeed to take their wicket. Also if Australia had taken any of them then Australia had to bat again to take the test in their hands.
The real man who made this possible for England is Paul Collingwood, who batted approximately 6 hours to score 74 runs and bring England near to Australia’s score. He stayed on cris for longest time than any other batsman in this innings and Australian bowler craved for his wicket.
When Collingwood became the ninth batsman to get out, Australians were once again high on the pitch and were hopping to get the success. But the last two batsman Monty Panesar and James Anderson did not allow any bowler of the Australian team to succeed.
Crowd as well as all the viewer arround the world enjoyed the high drama match in which England succeeded to bring match to end with draw. England evoked the memory of their 2005 Ashes win and crowd also enjoyed in the same way.
Immidiately after the match Panesar praised Collingwood for his affort and help with the batting for England team. He said “It’s amazing what he did today. He made a fantastic contribution to us drawing the game. He’s been throwing me balls and working really hard with me on my batting and it has paid off today.”
England’s final total was 252-9 and were ahead 13 runs from Australian first innings total. Check the final score!
