Australia out of tournament - Biggest upset of ICC world T20 2009
Perhaps the biggest upset of the ICC world T20 2009, Australia is out of the tournament as Sri Lanka defeated it by six wickets. 3 shiny players of Sri Lankan cricket team Ajantha Mendis, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara showed troumendus performance and took the team towards victory. Now Sri Lanka and West Indies are two teams confirmed to super 8 from the group C.
Australia scored 159/9 in 20 overs to answer that Sri Lanka kicked start their innings with the lightning batting of Dilshan. Dilshan laid foundation for Sri Lankan victory by scoring 53 runs from just 32 balls. After the dismissal of the Dilshan Sri Lanka lost 2 quick wickets of Mahel Jayawardene and Chamara Silva. But Sangakkara remained unbeaten and scored 55 and awarded the man of the match tag.
Earlier Sri Lanka restricted Australia to 159/9 in their 20 overs. Mendis, who is the piller of Sri Lankan balling attack, took 3 wickets. Mitchell Johnson and David Hussey played some nice shots later in the first innings and managed competitive score.
Now as predicted before the tournament started Group C proved to be the most interesting and competitive group of the tournament. As Australia is out of the tournament Sri Lanka and West Indies are making their way to super 8. In few days most of the picture will be cleared for the super 8 and tournament will become more interesting day by day.
